Epic clash alert: Kronos vs. Hades in Age of Mythology Retold! Watch as top players Mista and Divine face off in a high-stakes, time-warping showdown.
Welcome to a casted game of Age of Mythology Retold. We've got rank number one on the ladder, The Mista, who is playing as Kronos today. His opponent is a player you might recognize from the Age of Empires 4 scene, Divine. Divine has leveled up from being Divine DFP to Divine A, and he is a force to be reckoned with. If you are familiar with him, you know he is a very good player.
We should have a good match on our hands with Divine playing as Hades versus Kronos. These are both like the bad guys of the series, right? Hades and Kronos are the antagonists in the campaign, aren't they? We'll see some Atlantian and Greek action. The map is a nice green one with some ponds, though it doesn't show up in the rec file for some reason.
Hades isn't necessarily a bad guy; he's just the god of the underworld. The god of the underworld could be a good guy, right? Let's see if there's anything fancy going on. If you're looking for some beginner tips, Greeks are very easy to get the hang of. You get two on wood, two on gold, the rest on food, and repeat. It's pretty straightforward.
Atlantans are a bit trickier. Some say they could be easier to pick up because their citizens don't have to build drop-off points, but each one of their citizens holds more weight. If you get an idle citizen, you're losing out on more economy, and you have to balance that eco out. Their military roster is different too; most of their units are counter units, so you need to understand all the counters in the game.
Look at these giraffes! That should be the thumbnail, right? Age of Giraffes. Can you imagine if we could tilt the camera? It would be absolutely crazy.
We've got Divine down here, and Mista is aging up. There we go, we see the special ability of time shifting. Kronos can time shift, and Mista is going for a rush. This could be a very quick game. He's rushing Hades, who has access to Sentinels, which makes me a bit nervous for Hades.
You can rotate the camera, but it doesn't necessarily tilt. If you zoom all the way in, it does a little bit. Okay, I'll stop it before we get dizzy. The map is Blue Lagoon, thank you Frenzy.
We're about to see a very fast rush from Mista. He's aging up with Prometheus, so we'll see some Prometheans coming out. On the other side, Divine is aging up with Athena. I'm trying to think of the civilization most like the English from Age of Empires 4, as Divine played English forever, making like 100 towns. Maybe Ra, very town-centric.
Here we go, they are off, running across the map for a raid. Let's see what they find. Mista has split them off, with one going north and one going south.
Epic rush strategy in action: Mista's Prometheans vs. Divine's Athena—who will dominate?
We are about to witness a very fast rush from Mista. He is aging up with Prometheus, which means we will see some Prometheans coming out. On the other side, Divine is aging up with Athena. Divine, who has a history of playing like the English, is known for making numerous towns. The game begins with both players running across the map, initiating a raid. Mista splits his forces, sending one group north and another south, engaging in some scouting. The ability to zoom all the way out is a new feature that enhances the gameplay experience.
Mista is pushing villagers off wood successfully. Sentinels, which could have been deployed earlier, are now in action. He has some manners down but is not going for a second town center yet. The Minotaur is up, and the Prometheans are taking shots at the granary, causing more damage than expected. One Promethean goes flying through the air, and Mista retreats his forces on both the west and east sides after a brief raid. He uses the time shift ability to move back and is building a town center, going for a 2TC build.
Meanwhile, Divine has not built any military buildings yet. Instead, he has trained his heroes, which is a common strategy for Greeks to use their myth units from age up effectively. Mista is conducting raids on Divine's food supply, trying to push him off. When Prometheans die, they duplicate into two smaller Prometheans, similar to Russian dolls. Ajax is across the map with the Minotaur, but the second TC is already up, and he is working on the temple.
There doesn't seem to be any significant Atlantean army activity other than the units running around the map. Mista has gained a lot of value from his myth units, causing idle time for Divine. Ajax is noisy as he engages with a Promethean working on the granary. Mista heroizes one or two of his citizens using Valor, converting them into heroes and fully healing them. He is holding his ground for now.
Divine is showing some aggression with double Military Academy and double Archer ranges, indicating he will be producing hoplites and toxotes. Mista, on the other hand, is building a barracks and an armory, suggesting he is preparing to age up. It appears he is macroing for an age up, playing a greedy 2TC strategy and now aiming to advance in age. The barracks might be a bluff or a preparation for unit production if needed. Mista is indeed aging up with Hyperion, the Titan of watching and observation.
When your opponent is aging up but you're already knocking down their temple—timing is everything!
Toxotes and right now we've got a Barracks for the Atlanteans. He's also building an Armory, which indicates he's trying to age up. It does look like he was macroing for an age up, so I think he's trying to play it chill. That's super greedy—2 TC and now he's going to try to age up behind it. He's made this probably to make some units if needed or maybe just as a bluff, but he's definitely not training anything out of there.
Right now, it looks like he is going to be aging up. There it is—he's going to be aging up with Hion, Titan of Watching and Observation. Focus in Heroes Saturn enabled. He's heading up to the Heroic Age while Divine has really invested in some Age 2 Army, which will delay his age up. The question here is whether he will be able to get enough value with this investment. Divine does have a little bit of an army, including a Minotaur and Achilles leading the charge across the hill. Look at these guys—a good-looking Greek army. I know Divine's not in 2 TC. What a world we live in. Can I guess Dango's favorite AE for China? Easy GG. Can you guess his favorite Civ in Age of Mythology?
The Greek army is moving in right now, trying to take down that Temple while his opponent is aging up. Will Divine be able to get enough value? The Temple is going down. I'm trying to see if there are any Prometheans out, but I don't think so. He takes out the Temple and now he's working on the Manor, which is really going to hurt for the Atlanteans. Look at his population—he's got a fair amount of pop ready to go, but it's not the greatest. You don't love to lose these things as you can easily start to get popped. He has forced a lot of citizens inside the Town Center, causing a lot of idle time. However, Mista is about to hit the next age, and you can see units just streaming across the map.
We've got two Satyrs coming out and Chaos being used, causing all of his troops to fight each other. This is a God Power from Chaos, but it was countered with Restoration—a very nice move out of Divine. It looks like we got some Valor coming in, but Mista's got no army. Is Mista going to be able to hold this? It's not looking very good right now. The TC is hanging on, though not a ton of siege. The Minotaur is the only thing really with the hack damage here, the crush damage against the buildings. Down goes a citizen, so he's got them all idled up.
Behind this, he is training up Arcus. The Arcus are taking some shots—wow, that thing is really strong. It's Achilles; you got to watch out for Achilles. He is definitely an S-tier Age 2 hero, very, very good. He continues to keep five citizens inside that Town Center. Mista is in a little bit of trouble, but will he escape? He's trying to get the citizens out. He gets two of them out right there—nice. Did he get all of them out of there? He did escape a bunch of them. It's concerning when the Atlanteans have more villager pop than you.
Here we go—we've got the Arcus and the Satyr. Look at these things—pretty good myth units, very good at turtling for sure. The Town Center finally goes down, and he's just continuing to stream units across the field. It's Hoplites and Toxotes, and it looks like we've got a...
Mista turtled, lost his Town Center, but those archers with insane range are turning the tide!
Center missed a little bit of trouble, but will he escape? He's trying to get sens out there. Will they escape? He gets two of them right there, nice! I think there's more. Did he get all of them out of there? He did escape a bunch of them. It's concerning when the Atlanteans have more villager pop than you, but here we go. We got the Arcus and the Satur. Look at these things, pretty good myth unit I'd say, very good at turtling for sure.
The Town Center finally does go down. He's just continuing to stream units across the field, it's hoplites and toxic. It looks like we got a little bit of farm transition going on here in the base of Mista. He's shifted The Manor back, but I don't know if he's going to get it in time. Yeah, that disappears, didn't make it through the teleportal.
The Greek army is starting to grow in numbers. Look at this, 71 versus 18. Can Mista turtle his way out of this one? We're going to have to see. I'm not seeing Divine stopping at all. Look at this, he's spinning all that resources, just continuing to flood across the map. He's going for full range here to defend. Maybe we'll go ahead and hear a few of those guys by what we're going to see. Look at that, the damage they do. You just don't have the siege right now and can't be just taken that type of range damage. Look at these, these sat just don't mess around.
He's going full on Archer build, which seems to be really strong. What we're seeing so far out of Kronos here today, those farms set up all around, starting to go for a farming transition. He's really just staying inside of his base. These are generating favor, this is how it works in retold, your oracles passively generate favor. Let's see what happens here. I feel like Mista is starting to get a good foothold. The Army count doesn't look in his favor, but these things can shoot and scoot. Look at the range on these things, 20 range, it's a freaking Longbow. This is what Divine should be playing, we've got 20 range on those bad boys. Oh my god, what was that special attack called? That is called, oh it doesn't tell you because the tool tips don't work in the Observer mode, but I'll tell you what, that was the Spear of Doom is what I'll call it.
We've got some toxicities on the south side trying to go in for a raid. I kept calling toxotes and I swear every video I've posted someone's like it's toxi, so I hope I'm saying it right for you now. I expect everybody to be liking and thumb commenting and thumbs up and all that stuff.
I think Mista has turtled his way through this game. He seems to be doing just fine, he's got an entirely Archer composition. Divine is just now aging up, going up with Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, and that'll be giving access to that Nemean Lion. He has his own farm tradition back at home. Let's take a look at the line of sight of these players. We see what is going on here.
Right now, Mista is moving across the middle of the map, just now getting his upgrades, coming in full ranged army, and he's got a few heavy contarus as well to supplement. He's looking to hit some villager raids, feeling confident. This is the first time we've seen him out on the map. Got to watch out, he runs right into that Greek army, but look, oh my God, look at the range. As far as I'm concerned, guys, these are longbows, the Arcus are just absolute nuts range soldiers, woo man, not messing around.
Mista lost his Town Center, lost some villagers, lost some infrastructure, but he's turtled it up using these archers. I almost wonder if Divine maybe could...
Mista's strategic shift from an aggressive rush to a defensive eco-build was a game-changer!
Right now, Mista is moving across the middle of the map, just now getting his upgrades. You can see him coming in with a full ranged army, supplemented by a few heavy Contarus. He is looking to hit some villager raids and is feeling confident. This is the first time we've seen him out on the map, but he needs to be cautious as he runs right into that Greek army. However, look at the range! As far as I'm concerned, these are long bows; the Arcus have an absolute nuts range. Soldier, woo man, is not messing around.
Mista lost his Town Center, some villagers, and some infrastructure, but he's turtled up using these archers. I almost wonder if Divine could have aged earlier and brought in some siege before all these archers got online. Oh, turns a good deal of them into pigs—there we go, that was the Curse God power from Aphrodite. There's the Nemean Lion now; it could chase and do the little roar to freeze these units so he can catch them with the rest of his army as they're running around. We see Valor being called right now for Mista; he is turning units into heroes, hero rising—that's how the Atlanteans work.
It looks like Divine wants to do something. The Nemean Lion town is being rebuilt, and he has units all over the map. Let's look at Divine's line of sight. Divine is up on the north side with some gold, and we have a few archers outside, but they are going down pretty easily. A large army of infantry is out of the Greeks, and it looks like Mista is in the middle of the field while this is going down, picking off the reinforcements. That's what he's currently doing—running around, picking off reinforcements, not taking a direct engagement. He has the range and the mobility right now, so Divine has to be careful not to end up being pincered.
We see a really good tech coming in for the Greeks: Vaults of Erebus. Erebus Hades' vaults provide a 2.0 gold trickle, so that's free gold you get. That's a pretty nice upgrade for Hades. Here we go, we got a big fight coming in. The Nemean Lion is on the front line, and the Satyr is on the back line, trading blows. There's the roar—lots of units stunned. It looks like the Atlanteans are just mopping up this battle. That Nemean Lion is not going to stand a chance. Oh my gosh, that wasn't even close. Holy cow, not even close. You hear the shades—that's the sound you hear when they come back to life. When you lose units, they can come back as shades with Hades. Oh my gosh, these things are amazing. Look at them. Wow, guys, don't be sleeping on this unit. The Satyr seems to be really strong.
Oh no, you're totally right. Chat just called out—I totally missed it. He used Chaos again, and the Nemean Lion stunned his own troops in that battle. Not good, not good. The military count is 71 versus 50. Look at the villager count, really in favor of Mista right now. Mista says, "Okay, I'm getting to our Town Center," but we have some archers ready to stop that. He's picking off stragglers, but not before the heavy Arcus trade back. We have archers on the retreat. The Greeks—what can they do? They're heading up to the mountains, heading up to Mount Olympus to see what they can do. Look at all these shades—lots of shades in their sub-army, which means a lot of dead troops.
It feels like Mista has been playing this so collectively. At the very onset of this game, it looked like Mista was going for an all-in rush. He had the temple on the front line and was raiding with the Prometheans very aggressively. Then, behind that, he went for 2TC, and I have to say, it's a little bit brilliant. You kind of force your opponent into turtling a bit, being worried you're coming in with an all-in rush, and then behind that, going for the eco build, going for the 2TC. He's really just completely turtled behind it and made no units, and it's worked out for him so far.
Mista is going up to the fourth age with Helios. He also has a palace up on the map. Pegasus is up there saying hello, watching this. In the middle of the map, we have to be careful—the Arcus and the Satyr are getting picked off while he is aging, but he's going to be pulling those back. The town center on the top side looks like Divine built, so this game is going to move on up to the Mythic age. We have a town center in the middle. Let's see what Divine can see. He has a sprawling civilization here, but he is a little bit behind on the eco game—a lot behind on the eco game. You can see his opponent going up to the fourth age—not going to be good.
Looks like we have an attack on the town. Look at the range of these Arcus—these are like 100% long bows from Age of Empires 4. Unbelievable. What can you do to this? You can't even get close enough to shoot at them. Ah, okay, so he's aging up. He's about to be in the Mythic age, coming on up. We're continuing to see basically archer battles, and restoration is coming in—a nice use of that. He's cast that multiple times, really taking advantage of using his favor to use restoration once again. There we go, he's in the next stage. Will he use it? He's got Vortex available, or is he going to save that bad boy?
We see Mista chilling in the Mythic age. Divine is in a little bit of trouble here—a lot of trouble. He's farming back at home, has wood going on there, and his other TC has nothing happening. There's not really any other action; it's all here in the middle of the map. With that, I guess Divine said that is enough punishment. Mista has shown you once again why he is number one.
