Sometimes the best solutions come from a little chaos and creativity—just like drilling for oil.
Hello fellow engineers, and welcome back to Turmoil! I've just realized why the logo drips; it says oil at the end. Nah, I never knew that! It took me way too long to realize that that's why it's called Turmoil. Anyway, we're going back deeper underground to continue our campaign.
First off, we have the land auction. Now, it looks like there is some good liquid gold there with a value of 56, so we want to be close to that. I don't think we want to go that way because there's a 31 down there. This is how much oil is in the ground, by the way. I think either that one or that one would be good, so let's go with what I used to solve all of my problems, particularly when I was engineering: eeny meeny miny mo, catch an architect by its toe; if it bites, let it go. Eeny meeny miny mo. Oh no, everyone's bidding on it! I've just won the bid, but I spent 5 grand—oh dear God, everyone wanted that! Anyway, I've now got 34 grand remaining, so I'm just having a look at some upgrades I could get.
Aha, mole range! Yes, I want to make my moles better. Oh, and I can increase their speed as well. Yeah, I'll take that. Cool, let's go dig! This is our new spot. I tend to always start with a couple of Dowsers, but I probably should just start with M.E.S. I've then got 1,500 quid to spend on the rest of my stuff, so I'm going to need a rig, a horse or two, and probably a silo.
Oh look, we found some water! We found some oil over there as well. Let's just drill straight down into that oil, then we'll get a horse already ready and then we'll sell to the right because that's got the highest price at the moment. Oh look, there's more oil there as well! Okay, I'll do another little drill into that oil, get another horse, and make that go to the right shop. Alright, I think we're looking alright.
Oh no, no, no, no! Oh no, no, no! Get another horse! Get another horse! Oh, we got spillage! Oh no, we got another spillage. Okay, well, I'm going to shove my other silo over here. I'm then going to stop selling so everyone can go deliver it to the silo. The downside with that is we're a little bit short on money. I might actually have to sell some over on the right, but yeah, I've got to sell just because I actually need the money to get some other stuff.
Oh my goodness, this is nearly overflowing again! Why is there so much oil coming out of the ground? I've just capped off the end of one; that should be fine. But yeah, right, new drill there. I mean, if we go down to the water first, we can make drilling cheaper, right? So we do that. Or we want to move everyone to the left shop as well. 92—yeah, that upgrade making the drill thing wider is actually very nice. I like that! I'm going to convert that to a refinery and then connect you straight up to there. If I cap that off, we've got the water going to the refinery, which means we can start refining if we want. I might actually leave it for a little bit though, just because the oil price isn't bad.
Alright, next up, annoyingly, I've sort of blocked myself here. I might have to get another oil rig. This is not the most efficient way of doing this, but I've just realized how badly I've done everything. Still, we've got oil coming out there now, and we can start getting oil into this refinery. I think I'll go from here, maybe to the water. Maybe I'll just go to the middle so I can branch off to the water later on. I'll go to there, and then from here, I'm going to go to all the other oil spots. Actually, maybe I'll go down there first to make it cheap. Yes, Matt!
Alright, we're in the water, which means I can drill over that way for cheap. I can then drill down to there for cheap as well. Now we're also refining petrol! So let's swap both the shops to petrol, and then yes, we'll sell petrol over on the right because that is a good price. Nice! Then we can stop that water from going, so we're just sucking up oil here.
I mean, what I could do is just get the oil to go straight in. Yeah, I think I'm going to go—hang on, let me just uncap that water just so the drilling is cheaper, then cap it back up again. I'm going to get the oil going straight up into the refinery. I might need to uncap that and then just make all of these pipes bigger as well. There is a lot of oil down here! I'm also going to send a few more moles around. I can see there's water and oil; there's also a big rock there as well.
Maximize your profits by knowing when to sell and when to refine. Timing is everything in the game of oil!
As well, now we're also refining petrol. So, let's swap both the shops to petrol, and then, yes, we'll sell petrol over on the right because that is a good price. Nice! Then we can stop that water from going. So, we're just sucking up oil here. I mean, what I could do is get the oil to go straight in. Yeah, I think I'm going to go. Hang on, let me just uncap that water just so the drilling is cheaper, then cap it back up again. I'm going to get the oil going straight up into the refinery. I might need to uncap that and then just make all of these pipes bigger as well. There is a lot of oil down here.
I'm also going to send a few more moles around. I can see there's water and oil; there's also a big rock there as well, so yeah, there's not a gap. What we can do, though, is use our dynamite. Let's shove that there. I mean, hopefully, it's not too close to the oil that it sets it alight or something, but yeah, a mole has dropped the dynamite there, so that should explode. This means we can now drill through to get to the oil beneath. So nice, that is good!
Hang on, let's swap the petrol people to the left because that's where the higher prices are. I'm going to have to extend this down to where there's more water. I think that does go through some rock, so that's going to be expensive. Yep, and it's slow as well. So nice, we got that water in! Let's get the refinery back on; we'll sell over on the right. Let's get another high-level M. I can see there's something there; you can see there's a little bit of orange. What I do know is down here is a whole load of oil again, so maybe I'll take this straight down.
Yeah, let's go. Oh, I need to stop selling petrol actually; we're not getting a good price either side. Oh my goodness, look how much oil there is! We're going to have to stop refining or maybe just sell it. Just sell it! I'm going to upgrade that as well. Let's get another horse. Actually, let's upgrade all of my wagons as well just so they can carry more. Yeah, look, the water is running out. I might take this over there; that's a long way, 800 quid, but I think it might actually be worth it. I need more horses; that's about to spill.
Oh, we got a spillage! We're going to be fined. Right, okay, I'll drill down to the bottom and made it over to where there's more water. Right, we got an S left. We got an S left! All right, the water's back up and running. I need a wagon over here; it's about to run out. There you go! This spillage is insane. I'm going to have to switch one of these just to an oil shop, I think, because we're about to spill on the left as well. Oh no, it spilled on the right! That is oil; we're going to have to sell some oil.
Oh my goodness, we're constantly overspilling! What is going on? What's the date now? Okay, it's nearly December; we've only got a month left. Let's stop refining; we got loads of petrol there. I need to sell petrol actually. Come on, we need to refine more! We need to refine more! How long is left? It's the 20th; it's nearly Christmas. Right, sell everything! Just sell, sell, sell! Oh, there's so much oil left in the ground.
At the end of the year, we are revealing what's left. Oh, I think we got everything! Oh, we did! All right, there, we did leave a bit of oil, but we made 34 grand. Unfortunately, nowhere near what he made, 50 grand. All right, back in the upgrade shop. All right, let's get the pipe reveal range and then the refinery booster as well, and then let's go buy some land. Yeah, that guy had a 71, so I think we definitely want to try and get this one here if we can.
Oh, they're all bidding! They're all bidding! Let's go again; we can pay more. Okay, we're good, we're good! I think we won! I think we won! Okay, so here's our new plot. Oh, in the background, there's like a bridge; that is a good sign. Ah, time's running! Time's running! Okay, let's couple of dowsers and a few moles deep down. Come on, we got to try and do this efficiently this time. I feel like I'm quite bad at this. No, no, he's got a point!
So anyway, let's go here because this guy's waving his hat. Oh, look! Straight to some oil! There we go, good amount of oil. Right, get a horse, and then we sell over at the right shop. Let's get another horse. All right, down there, is that more oil? Yes, we'll go down to more oil. Get another horse as well. So, all we're doing is just selling oil for now. Keep it simple! Right, over on the right...
Success is about adapting quickly and efficiently to the challenges you face.
Okay, we're good, we're good. I think we won! So, here's our new plot. In the background, there's like a bridge; that is a good sign. Ah, time's running, time's running!
Let's get a couple of Dowsers and a few moles deep down. Come on, we got to try and do this efficiently this time. I feel like I'm quite bad at this. No, no, let's get a point. Anyway, let's go here because this guy's waving his hat. Oh look, straight some oil! There we go, a good amount of oil.
Right, get a horse, and then we sell over at the right shop. Let's get another horse. All right, down there, is that more oil? Yes, we'll go down to more oil and get another horse as well. So, all we're doing is just selling oil for now; keep it simple.
Right over on the right, I'm seeing lots and lots of water. So perhaps what I want to do is get a silo, shove that over here, and upgrade that to a Refinery, but not yet because I probably want another rig first or maybe some more horses. You can't drill straight from a Refinery without a drilling rig.
Here's the rig; we'll shove that there. We'll then go down into, I mean actually, we'll go to there. Oh yeah, we'll go across to here so it is in the water because that will make my drilling cheaper as well. I can upgrade that to a Refinery and then just lock that. Then I can drill for cheap, like over to there and then up to the Refinery.
So, this is now getting water; you can see the water tank filling up. Let's just get these guys refining there. So, that's now refining. Switch the right shop to petrol. I think I need to get more oil on the go. I'm pretty sure there's oil there, so if we drill down to like there, we should be fine. Yes, okay, we have some extra oil.
Let's stop selling oil now, get the Refinery back up and running. Then, oh man, down here there's Big Oil! There is Big Oil down there. What I might do is just unblock that, then I've got cheap drilling. We can go this way, avoiding the Black Rock because that's one we can't dig through.
Oh look, I found more oil! Oh my, there's so much oil down here! Who put all this oil here? I'm going to have to upgrade these pipelines as well. We'll drill down to there as well. Look at all that; there's so much oil!
Okay, let's get more horses, let's upgrade the horses, then let's start refining and start selling as well. Get more horses on the horse over there. Actual price is good, nice! Okay, next up, I want to upgrade this one on the left. So, I think if we go over to the water, we can then afford to upgrade all of these pipes.
Oh, over on the right, our Refinery has run out of water, so let's drill over that way right now. We've got water back in the Refinery. I'm going to boost it quickly because it's full up. Oh, don't overheat, don't overheat! Right, turn off, turn off before it explodes. Ah, we got a spillage!
Oh no, we got a spillage! Anyway, we need to make sure we've got all the water over here. Let's stop that second. Oh, they're all spilling; they're all spilling! Oh no, all my profits! Oh my God, this is insane!
Right, sell over on the right; stop selling on the left. Right, we are officially like we don't have enough people selling, I think, because they've all got a little bit of oil in their trailers, and they don't know what to do with it. But I meant to have 10 people selling oil; I think they just got to unload the oil they have. I can't actually buy more horses. Oh, this is a disaster!
I'm going to go straight down there as well, maybe a couple more moles just to see what's about. Oh no, look! We hit that, so we can't go through that. There's some sort of jam here, some sort of blocker. Right, okay, here we go, here we go. I think people just had to try and get rid of the oil they had, then oh, it broke! No, how did it break?
Oh dear! Right, anyway, let's go down this way. We got to get more water over this side. Oh man, look at the price on the left! I've never seen a price that high! We're out of water; we need more water. Yeah, the Boost just rinses through the water.
Right, let me just upgrade that pipe as well. Right, and then you need to extend over that way, maybe down there as well. You might just have to start selling oil again. All right, sell oil on the right; the price ain't too bad. I'm not going to sell petrol on the left; oh, left price is bad. All the prices are bad! Refine, refine!
I can see there's another oil patch there, but I just can't get to it all right now. I think just start selling oil. I mean, we're making some decent cash; there's still quite a...
In the game of resource management, adapt and pivot quickly or risk losing it all.
Oh dear, it seems we have a problem. Let’s go down this way; we need to get more water over on this side. Look at the price on the left—I've never seen a price that high! We're out of water, and we need more. The boost just rinses through the water. Let me just upgrade that pipe as well. We might need to extend over that way, maybe down there as well. You might just have to start selling oil again.
Sell oil on the right; the price isn't too bad. I'm not going to sell petrol on the left because the left price is bad. All the prices are bad right now. Refine, refine. I can see there's another oil patch there, but I just can't get to it at the moment. I think we should just start selling oil. I mean, we’re making some decent cash, and there’s still quite a bit of oil in the ground.
At the end of the year, there was so much oil that we missed quite a few as well. Oh my goodness, we got a six grand spillage fine, but we still made a 40 grand profit! How does that compare to our colleagues? Way better! So, let’s try and buy some more stocks. Oh, they put in way more than I did—15 grand. You got to remember, 15 grand is key.
Look, the guy with no sleeves—he might not have sleeves, but he has 8% of the stocks, while I've only got 4%. Next land auction, I was on a 71. Oh my goodness, that is quite good! Let’s try to get the one next to it. Everyone's going to be trying to get it, but yes, I won! I did win, and I've still got 43 grand for upgrades.
Company upgrades include switch speed and refinery efficiency. I’ll get the other switch speed as well, then I think we have some good upgrades. This time, I might just go with a couple of Dowsers; I do like the Dowsers. Alright, we found something straight away—probably oil, not entirely sure. Oh look, there’s water up high as well; we’ll drill straight down into that. Nice! There’s the oil and a couple of horses.
Let’s start selling on the right. Let me get another rig here and see how deep the oil is. I imagine it’s shallow, right? Yeah, there it is—just a little bit of oil, but that’s all good. There’s quite a lot of water about, so maybe we should get the silo in there. Then we’ll actually stop selling on that side and sell on the left.
Then we can go to that point and then to the water, and we can block this off so they’re not linked. Although, I probably want to be linked just quickly to get down there. But yeah, then we stop that, and if we upgrade that to a refinery, we can take that straight up and start refining. If we get an extra four or two down, although I’m tempted just to let this fill up with water, to be fair.
Yeah, I might upgrade my wagons; actually, the earlier I do that, the better. I’ll get more value out of them. Then if I link those two together, we can continue drilling over this side for oil out of this run here. If we want more water, we can just use this one, so we can come down there if we want water.
Alright, nice, stop selling there. I think it’s time to start refining and then switch these shops to petrol. Alright then, we sell on the right. Man, I need to find some more oil. Where’s all the oil gone? I mean, that could be oil down there. Yeah, look, they’re both oils.
What I might do is take you into the water just so I can do some cheap drilling, and we’ll go straight down in search of oil for cheap. Alright, okay, found some oil for that one. I’m going to keep going over this way; there’s lots more oil to be had.
Alright then, boost, refine, boost, refine, then sell over at the left shop, not the right one. Get some more horses. Right, then extend that down to get some more water. Right, decent, this could be okay. I can see more oil down there as well, which is lovely.
I might just go up to that place just so I can upgrade these pipes on the right for cheap. So, upgrade all of those down to there. No, go all the way, go all the way, and then this one can go down. There’s oil down here as well.
Okay, now we’re back in business. We just got to keep an eye on the shops. I want to swap over to the right shop, so get eight in there now and keep boosting as this fills up. Then I need to find some more water. Is that water over there, do we think? Oh no, it’s oil! Oh, it’s a big thing of oil as well.
Yeah, oh no, it’s more oil over here, and I assume down there is also oil. Okay, we don’t have the water to make that. We’re going to have to go back to oil, so sell on the right and put all 15 on it. Oh no, the left is dropping.
Success comes from knowing when to pivot and adapt your strategy.
In the game, I aimed to upgrade these pipes on the right for cheap, ensuring that I could upgrade all of those down to there. I noted that there was oil down here as well. After making some adjustments, I realized we were back in business. However, I needed to keep an eye on the shots, so I decided to swap over to the right shot, getting eight in there now and continuing to boost as it filled up.
Next, I needed to find more water. I initially thought I spotted water, but it turned out to be a big thing of oil. I quickly assessed that we don't have the water to make that, so I had to revert to oil. I decided to sell on the right, putting all 15 on it. I noticed that left is dropping on petrol, prompting a fast swap over to the right to sell petrol. As the final month approached, I was relieved to see that we didn't miss anything, although we didn't quite get all the oil out. Ultimately, we made 41 Grand, which was more than everyone else.
Once back in the game, I noticed there's a gem over on the right and contemplated whether it was worth anything. I planned to send a mole to dig it up if I came across a ruby. Unfortunately, I mistakenly sent a mole to the wrong spot, resulting in a massive waste of pipe. However, I discovered some water straight down, which was a relief. I then found more water down below, but it seemed like I was facing a dead end. Thankfully, we had some water, and I decided to head down, navigating around some big rocks.
Later, I participated in the stock auction, where I bid 2,01 for 8% shares, which I believed was more than anyone else puts in. This strategy paid off, as I ended up with 12% of the shares. For the next piece of land, I decided to try down here, where I anticipated oil might be present. To expedite the digging process, I invested 20 grand to make the moles dig faster.
As I continued, I found water on the left, water in the middle, and oil there. I dug straight down to access the oil and planned to sell that while connecting to the water. I realized that there's more oil down the bottom right, but it was quite a long way to drill. The oil price was good, so I decided to get another horse and sell on the left as well.
I was pleased to discover Big Oil down there, which prompted me to unlock that and upgrade all the pipes. This would allow for a more efficient operation. I then swapped the horses over to the right and added more horses to handle the increased oil flow. I also considered getting a silo here, upgrading it to manage the oil better.
As I refined the oil, I decided to sell some petrol over this side, ensuring that two out of the six horses were selling petrol while the others filled up with oil. I boosted the operation and planned to get another rig to maximize production. I sent a couple of moles to the left of the middle and found more oil, which I quickly tapped into.
However, I was concerned about running out of water, so I planned to get another refinery on that side. I upgraded my pipelines and increased my horse count to manage the oil flow better. As August approached, I decided to buy all the horses, preparing for the final month.
In the last month, I assessed the situation and realized there was no point in selling petrol, so I switched to oil. Unfortunately, the oil price was so low, which made it unwise to sell at that moment. I was, however, full of petrol and aimed to sell it on the right side. As the price began to rise, I remained vigilant about the water supply, considering the need to find it somewhere else.
Ultimately, I managed to sell oil on the left at a good price. As the final month concluded, I was pleased to see that we made 64 Grand, with a total profit of 60 Grand, marking the most we've ever made. I was curious to see how this would compare to everyone else, and it turned out we smashed them.
In conclusion, I planned to do the same bid for our stocks again, but someone outbid me at 21 Grand. I still had 75 grand to spend on upgrades, which I would save for the next game. For now, I signed off with a cheerful, peace, love, and oil.
