Dive into Ocean Keeper: Mine resources, upgrade your Mech, and fend off sea creatures in an underwater adventure!
Hello fellow engineers, and welcome to Ocean Keeper. In this game, you play as a Mech on the ocean floor. You can explore various caves and head inside, where the game turns into Dome Keeper. Essentially, you need to mine down in these caves and find resources to upgrade your Mech and defend yourself against horrible sea creatures.
Unfortunately, we are not finding any resources down here, so let's do a bit of strip mining. We'll go left—okay, we found nothing. We'll go right then—still nothing. Let's go deeper and strip mine down here. This is not good. Finally, we found some blues, so we'll mine those out and carry them back to the surface. This cave is terrible. I've played quite a bit off-camera, just learning how it works, and as you can see, it's still very Dome Keeper-esque because we are under attack already.
Back to the surface, let's remember that cave is the one we're next to. Down at the bottom, we've got bugs and some really pointy things coming towards us. Let's try and shoot them. There are also some coming from the top—let's get them back. They are all down, nice. Let's head into this cave next to us and hopefully have a bit more luck. There are resources right at the surface, so we'll drill these out, get the blue rocks, and ooh, there's gold rocks. That will definitely come in handy. I'll have a little look this way—nice, found a big clump of blue. Let's take these up. I don't think I have time to get down, but I'll grab one little blue. That was not worth it.
Before the round starts, we can head into the upgrade menu. We can upgrade our Digger, making him faster and able to dig through dirt quicker. We can also upgrade our Mech with various enhancements, such as more health and faster movement. Additionally, we can upgrade our machine gun. For now, I'll wait until I get a bit more blue because the machine gun upgrades will be required. There's a load of bugs coming from the top, so let's shoot them. There's stuff coming from the bottom, so let's quickly shoot down that way. I could really use a machine gun upgrade; this is shooting slow. Actually, I could lure stuff around this rock and then, before killing everything, try to get back to my caves. Let's shoot those guys up there—nice. There's the last enemy, so if I shoot him now, there you go.
Let's get back into this cave. We know we've got blues there, so we'll grab those. It's probably worth exploring a bit more. Oh, look at this—we found a relic. It's just like Dome Keeper. We'll dig that 4x4 out and take the relic to the surface. While we're here, I found some more blues, so we'll dig those out and carry them. We're moving quite slow now; I should probably drop one, but I want to take all this stuff up.
At the surface, we get to pick a new weapon from the relic. The artillery does huge damage but takes a long time to reload and does area damage, which could be quite good. The jamming missile launcher shoots projectiles that slow enemies down, which could also be good. There's also an auto machine gun. I like the sound of the artillery—30 damage is huge, so let's grab that. We'll head down and dig here. Oh yeah, there's blues right in range. I don't have time to get more, so back to the surface.
Let's upgrade our machine gun. Now, instead of doing three shots per reload, it will do nine. The damage is going up from 10 to 13, and the rate of fire is increasing from 5 to 7. This should be pretty good now. Enemies are over that way—look how much faster it's shooting!
Upgrading your gear makes all the difference in surviving those intense enemy waves!
We have a projectile that slows enemies down, which could be useful. Additionally, there's an auto machine gun and artillery that deals 30 damage, which is substantial. I decided to grab the artillery and head down to dig. I found some resources, but I didn't have enough time to collect them all, so I returned to the surface to upgrade the machine gun. The upgrade increased the shots per reload from three to nine, the damage from 10 to 13, and the rate of fire from 5 to 7, making it significantly more effective.
Enemies appeared, and the upgraded machine gun proved its worth by shooting much faster. I encountered worms and bugs attacking from various directions, but managed to take them down. The artillery was also effective, keeping enemies at a distance and exploding them. I then explored a new cave and found resources on the surface, which I collected and brought back up. I continued digging efficiently and discovered more valuable resources, prioritizing blues over golds due to their higher utility early in the game.
With 7 seconds left, I returned to the surface and upgraded the machine gun again, increasing its shot per reload by 12, damage by 2, and rate of fire by 3, at the cost of 12 blues and 2 golds. With only four of each resource remaining, I considered upgrading my character's speed. The artillery helped identify the direction of incoming enemies, and the machine gun's rapid fire was effective against various threats, including jellyfish-like bugs.
I explored another new cave, hoping to find a useful relic or weapon. I found options like an Auto Shock Rifle with a slowing electric projectile, Detonation Charges that deal area damage, and an Auto Rocket that automatically fires rockets at enemies. Given my existing artillery, I chose the auto rocket for its accuracy. I then returned to gather more blues and considered upgrading my mech's speed for better mobility between caves. Although the auto rocket's reload time could be reduced, I prioritized speed for now.
While exploring, I encountered a giant worm boss. Instead of running away, I decided to use the opportunity to navigate to another area, dodging the green globules it shot at me.
Upgrading my Mech speed is a game-changer for exploring caves and battling bosses!
Upgrading my Mech speed feels essential as it currently seems a bit slow. Although I could upgrade the auto rocket reload time, which reduces by 0.3 seconds, the improvement isn't significant. It does increase the splash radius and damage by 10%, but I believe a faster Mech will be more beneficial. This will allow me to reach other caves quicker.
I found a good spot to battle as I don't expect attacks from above. As I walked down, I encountered a boss – a giant worm. Instead of running away, I decided to use this opportunity to dodge the green globules it shot at me and avoid the worm itself, aiming to find a new cave to explore. I realized I hadn't explored the bottom cave yet. After the worm was down, I discovered a new cave, which was promising.
In this new cave, I mined efficiently and found a few more Blues. I had five seconds to get back to the surface. I decided not to spend any resources immediately and aimed to find more Blues for better upgrades. I encountered bugs from the top but managed to take them out. The jellyfish shooting glob at me were also defeated.
Exploring further, I noticed new caves often have blue resources near the top and possibly relics. I mined out the resources and took them to the surface. Despite the hard digging, I found more iron. I planned to return to this cave as deeper exploration yields rarer resources. However, I faced more enemies, including worms and jellyfish. After defeating them, I considered upgrading my dig power and speed to navigate faster.
Ignoring the Blues for now, I aimed to find Greenies and discovered another relic. I prioritized the greens due to their value, then uncovered the relic. I debated between Frost bullets, explosive bullets, or upgrading Mech speed. I chose explosive bullets and continued digging to ensure nothing was missed. Finding more Blues, I upgraded the machine gun's power, which increased shoot per reload by 100, damage by one, and rate of fire by three.
Although I could enhance explosive bullets further, it would cost three greens, which are also used for repairs. This is similar to Cobalt in another game. Ultimately, I decided to increase the gun's power, though I ran out of resources.
Upgrading your gear is key to surviving the swarm!
We start by digging over this area to ensure we haven't missed anything. We find more Blues, quickly grab those three, and head back to the surface. Next, we head to the machine gun to upgrade the bottom power. This upgrade uses a greeny, increasing our shoot per reload by 100, our damage by one, and our rate of fire by three. Upgrading the machine gun is essential, although we also have the option to improve our explosive bullets, which would cost three greens. It's important to note that greens are also used for repairs, similar to Cobalt in another game.
I decide to increase the power of the gun but realize I'm out of Blues, so I can't proceed with further upgrades. I prepare for battle. Worms appear at the top, and my machine gun, now equipped with explosive bullets, starts ripping through them. More worms come from the bottom, but we manage to take them down. We are quite far from our caves, so we decide to find another one.
We discover a new cave with easy blue resources at the top, which is always good. There are loads of Blues and some gold, which I gladly collect. I decide to make my auto rocket gun more powerful, upgrading it twice to increase its shooting speed.
Suddenly, we face a swarm of bugs. There are so many of them, and we are pinned against the wall. I keep shooting, trying to rip a hole through the bugs. We manage to go up and find a new cave. We spawn right next to it and find more Blues. I aim to go deeper to get greens, but I keep hitting dead ends.
Back at the surface, I do the third upgrade on my auto rocket gun, increasing its power, damage, splash radius, and reducing reload time. However, we encounter a giant crab. I try to take it down, but I need more speed and health. I repair and hide behind a rock, dodging its claws. Despite my efforts, the crab destroys me.
Thankfully, every bit of mining I did earned me currency, which I can spend to improve my Mech's stats, weapons, and Relic slots. Now, we can hold four weapons instead of three. We go again, this time with more upgrades.
Down in the cave, we have a bomb. I mine out the blue stuff and drop a bomb before heading to the surface. The bomb mines out a large area, allowing us to collect more resources. Although the bomb takes a while to recharge, it could change everything for the better. Additionally, I now have a ballistic missile boost, adding to my arsenal of four weapons.
Bombs are game-changers, making exploration and upgrades a breeze!
With the recent upgrades, we now have more Relic slots allowing us to hold four weapons instead of three. As we venture into the cave again, you'll notice we have a bomb now. This enables us to mine out the blue stuff and drop a bomb before heading to the surface. Upon returning, the bomb's impact is evident, mining out a significant area. Although the bomb takes a while to recharge, its potential to change everything for the better is clear.
Additionally, I now have a ballistic missile boost and four weapon slots. Exploring extra caves increases our chances of finding more relics and weapons. Dropping a bomb in strategic locations proves beneficial, allowing us to upgrade our machine gun immediately. Interestingly, the bomb itself can be upgraded to inflict more damage and increase its range.
As we send out the missile, we encounter bugs. Returning to the cave I previously exploded, I suspected there might be a hidden Relic, and indeed, we found one. Trying out detonation charges, I now possess another bomb. Dropping it strategically, we can assess the damage later. Upgrading the machine gun and examining the detonation charges, which increase damage and reduce reload time, seems worthwhile.
Defending against bugs, including weird slug things, was relatively easy, making me feel powerful. The bomb revealed some green resources, useful for repairs, which I took back to the surface. Exploring another cave, I dropped a bomb, uncovering a wealth of resources. Defending against the natives, I launched a ballistic missile, successfully clearing the wave. The artillery is quite effective, and upgrading it might be beneficial.
Back in the cave, I transported resources to the surface, aiming to upgrade my power, carry capacity, and speed for quicker mining. Discovering another Relic, I took it to the surface, realizing I might have two artilleries now. Dropping another bomb before returning to the surface, I cleared some space with explosive damage.
In a new cave, dropping a bomb revealed a maze-like structure rich in resources, though no Relic was found. With enough blue resources, I fully upgraded the machine gun, making the next battle easier. Dropping another bomb while transporting resources, we uncovered more, though still no Relic. Surrounded by enemies, the battle continues as we head southbound.
Exploring caves, upgrading weapons, and battling bugs—never give up, even when it gets tough!
We discovered some new caves, and as we ventured deeper, we encountered a maze-like structure. Although we found plenty of resources, there was no relic in this cave, so we might need to explore elsewhere next time. Fortunately, I gathered enough blues to fully upgrade the machine gun, making the next battle easier. We dropped a bomb and sent resources to the surface, but still found no relic. As we battled southbound, we found ourselves surrounded and backed into a corner. Despite the challenging situation, we kept firing missiles.
Realizing the need to revisit the cave, we went deeper and finally revealed a relic. With the cave thoroughly explored, we decided to try out frost bullets or perhaps a new weapon with slowing electric projectiles, which sounded promising. We then focused on upgrading the new auto shock rifle twice, which proved effective underwater as the electricity slowed down enemies significantly.
Exploring more caves, we found one filled with blue resources, enough to fully upgrade the shock rifle. Considering the previous encounter, I thought it prudent to increase my Mech Health sooner rather than later. During the next round, we faced numerous bugs, and the shock rifle's effectiveness was a relief. We launched missiles and managed to gather some resources from an old Mech. Despite the cave not offering much, we prepared for the upcoming crab battle.
In the crab battle, we dodged its attacks and launched missiles, managing to bring it down after some repairs. Our build had improved, and we found another relic. We chose explosive bullets over rotation, as there were always many enemies in front of us. Seeking more Greenies for repairs, we ventured deeper but had to return due to time constraints. Prioritizing more Health and artillery damage, we prepared for the next wave.
The new wave seemed more spread out but manageable, and we ripped through the enemies efficiently. We found another cave with green resources, allowing at least one repair. Despite the challenging situation, we managed to repair fully and considered upgrading speed. We survived the wave, though it was tough, and faced another disappointing cave.
Just when you think you're invincible, the game throws jellyfish and worms at you—never let your guard down!
The gameplay seems to be a bit more spread out than usual. However, we are ripping through these levels nicely. We have discovered a new cave, and although I was trying to get green resources, we did find some this time. This is good because it allows for at least one repair. Currently, we have 185 health, which is not bad.
Oh boy, this is bad. We are in trouble. I am just walking forward through the obstacles. I quickly repair a few times and fully restore my health. Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade my health, but I can upgrade my speed, which might be necessary. I think we made it to the end of the wave, and I really needed that repair.
The next cave is rather disappointing; we didn't get any green resources, so we might be in trouble. We can't repair, but we can add extra speed or improve the detonation charges. The rotation speed upgrade doesn't seem worth it. Let's see what happens next. We need to take out the jellyfish because they shoot and the worms are annoying. Surprisingly, that went quite well. Let's explore this new cave.
It's a relic! These upgrades save me from having to buy them. I am going straight for the green resources this time. I found some, but most of my time is gone. We can repair twice, which should help. Another battle begins, and it turns out to go pretty well. We found more green resources, which is great. I am back in business and upgrading the detonation charges to the max, as well as the artillery.
Oh my, what was that? It's another boss. I need to take it down. Fire missile! It's shooting everywhere and has slowed me down. Now it's stuck on me. Run, run, run! I dodged the electric attack, which means I can dodge the next one and hit it. This boss is actually quite easy; it seems to be some sort of fishy thing. Nice, it is down, and I am down another mine. This was reasonably successful; I got a load of resources and repaired my Mech to almost max health. There aren't too many upgrades left, mostly just rotation speed.
I found another relic and some green resources, so I can make my explosive bullets better. I don't want to get cocky, but I am feeling pretty invincible right now. However, these bugs are coming in fast. Quick, shoot faster! The snakes are down, and now it's about finding new caves. Surely this one is new. Damn it, this one isn't, but I have upgraded my guy to be pretty powerful now. The next upgrade will probably add plus 10 power, allowing me to smash through everything and explore faster.
The waves are getting bigger, but we seem to be coping, although my health is going down. I am being shot by jellyfish and worms and getting pinned in. Ow, so many jellyfish! Get back, jellyfish! I am down to six health. Oh no, it was going so well. I destroyed 4,000 enemies and have 2,000 points to spend. I could upgrade myself, but I don't feel like I need to. That was Ocean Keeper. I hope you guys enjoyed it. For now, I'll say peace, love, and stupid underwater natives. Bye.
